McDonald's Toys
The first McDonald’s Happy Meal was sold in 1979 in Kansas City, and with it was the first Happy Meal toy. The initial set of toys were: a McDoodleer stencil, puzzle book, ID bracelet, McDonaldland eraser or a McWrist wallet. Since then, McDonald’s has released hundreds of Happy Meal toys, including countless movie and Disney promotions. The first movie themed Happy Meal was the Star Trek Meal in 1979, and the first Disney themed Happy Meal was released in Disney 1987.
In 2005 Disney celebrated their 50th Anniversary, and McDonald’s released a special edition Happy Meal toy, a collectible from the classic cast of Disney characters. Some of these characters were Mickey and Minnie Mouse, of course, Goofy, Tinkerbell, Pluto, and many others.
In addition to traditional Disney characters, in it’s nearly thirty year history, McDonald’s Happy Meals have hosted Shrek for each sequel, Wizard of Oz, and Hello Kitty!, and animals from the Build-A-Bear Workshop. There have been many other Happy Meal toys over the decades, turning McDonald's toys into a market for collectibles.
